Sanctus

My hands try to navigate

your carved sculpture,

our earthly garments

we have no need for.

We surrendered to the tides
and let the waves take us deep,
my mind is a blank slate again.
So teach me how to touch you
under these stars
because I lose all memory
at the mere sight of you.
Looking into your eyes,
I try not to succumb
but my heartbeat gives me away.
I begged both angels and demons
to make you fall for me, but
instead, I fall for you each time
with every holy glance and holy touch,
deep like the fall of Lucifer from the heavens
I am left at your mercy.

This is a life I can live with,
bringing offerings to your altar
with each Mass we conduct
‘til you’ve taken all my sacrifice.
With you, it’s heaven and it’s hell
but I’ll be keeping your sabbath for always.

You’ve become my ritual

in ways I can’t explain,

you’ve become a ceremonious religion,
a craving in my veins.
In my soul, you may find your shrine,
a kind of worship the gods envy.
My faithfulness unparalleled
like a canonized saint so holy.
They tell me I’m foolish,
to wash away my sins in the river
but you are my commandment,
does this make me a sinner?
Let my sacrifices for you
speak loud for themselves.
Come, let’s attend our confession
only to repeat our sins again.
